A Quiet Madness - Obligatory Sports Post

http://forums.rebirthro.com/index.php?app=blog&blogid=36&showentry=190

The Saint's have killed their 40+ year drought of post-season existence with the ultimate prize. Ever since the last seconds ticked off that game clock, I've heard countless commentators, reporters, faces on TVs, and voices on radios saying the same thing: If they can win it all, everyone can win it all.

Except the Cubs

I am a Cubs fan. I was born a Cubs fan. I will die a Cubs fan. And if there is some genetic trait that causes Cubsfandomitis, it will most likely spread to any children I may father in the near future. However, it has taken many a year for me to come to what is now the most obvious conclusion.

I will never see the Cubs win The World Series.

Now I don't believe in any Billy Goat Curse. However, there is a curse far more dangerous that lies at the heart of this constant failure since 190godwhydoikeeptrackofthis8. It is the very nature of the City of Chicago itself. For every team we care about, we want perfection. We expect perfection. We demand perfection. And anything short of flawlessness might as well be utter crap. It's why the Cubs will fail. It's why the Bears failed. It's why the Bulls thrived during their golden age. It's why no one gave a damn when the Sox won it all.

It's bad enough when our major sports columnists have only the settings of criticize and criticize harshly, but when the very City itself gives off its aura of heavy weight, if you aren't ready right out of the gate, this city will eat you alive. Theres no chance of growing, developing, or adapting. Here you are either ready or you are not.

And that's why the Cubs will never win. The players that are in will not change. Any new talent we get will be crushed by the very city that brings them in. The only way would be to wipe the slate clean and start fresh with perfect picks top to bottom. But that would place any team with a chance to win it all.

Except the Cubs.

Really? The Who?

This may have been the worst Halftime show I have ever seen. Seriously, the NFL needs to get an act that can sing their songs IN THEIR ORIGINAL OCTAVE!

And Since There's Plenty of Room on the Bandwagon

Congrats to the Saints for their Super Bowl XLIV win. Was one helluva game. And that onside kick to start the second half; you'd need a pair made of enriched plutonium coated in an extraterrestrial alloy to make that call. Well played Coach Payton.

Best $50 I've ever lost.

A Quiet Madness - No RRO 2010 Blogs (also Voting)

http://forums.rebirthro.com/index.php?app=blog&blogid=36&showentry=183

Apparently the Y2K syndrome that the world had "suffered" is running rampant in these blogs. So until this particular problem is addressed, it will be perpetual New Year's Eve here in A Quiet Madness. I have full confidence in our administrators skill and good intentions, but seeing as how it's been a month that this particular problem has been around, and that even I didn't notice till 3 days AFTER I made a post, and that no one really gives two #$%@ and a half about these things, I'm not holding my breath for a fix. (...nor do I really care, for that matter)

Warning: Mild Political Content - Parental Discretion is Advised

Here in my home state of Illinois, we are having our mid-term primary, one of the most underrated and obscure elections to ever occur on American soil. Yes, I did vote. And no, most people I know did not. While we have this rather early primary election, most of the country is waiting to ignore their own primaries. While I understand the futility that is inherent in these elections, I choose to vote anyways, because if there are that few people voting, it makes my vote that much more important.

In any case it is rather sad that, while there are many factors in choosing a candidate for our state's governor, I find myself voting for the one I feel is least likely to face trial in the near to immediate future. (see: Blago; Ryan, George) Illinois politics is an ungodly beast and Chicago politics is a Goddamn monster of a machine.

I will not share too many of my political views on this blog, thank God. There are too many blogs making too many posts on too many issues for me to even want to join the fray. I will take an occasional opportunity, however, to encourage all to be at the very least aware of the politics surrounding your respective cities, states, and countries. While not all are fortunate enough to immediately do something about it, luck favors the well prepared. There will be a time and place where knowing the who's and how's of government will get you a bit better off, and who knows, you might change the world, if just a little bit.

And to all my fellow Americans of voting age a slightly dated, but still relevant prod to get ready to vote.

...Forgot?

As we crawl out of this decade that we seem to have stumbled into, it may be quite the temptation to try and forget all the bad that has happened over the last 10 (ten?!!!!) years. Regret is one of those emotions that we love to hate. Looking back, we both wish the years away while wondering what they could have been if we had a "Universal IRL Reset NPC." I've personally made several mistakes and have struggled in ways my -10 year self would never have begun to imagine possible. Loss of friends, family, struggles with faith and politics, or things as minor as paying for school, starting this blog, buying the PSPGo (CURSE YOU $50 OFF AT FRY's!!!!!)

One thing that has completely caught me off guard though was being on RRO for so long. I've never been so attached to a server, official or private, Ragnarok or other, as long as I have played here. Theres something so comforting and familiar about Ragnarok Online that just keeps me playing. Yet why RRO? I was never a big fan of 255+ levels on other servers. Nor a big fan of 100/100 rates. Yet here I am for a good number of years, maining both a super novi and a baby wiz. (shows you my taste for pvp/woe ;>> ) I don't know whether it's the imbalance, the atmosphere, or just the company of good friends, I feel right being here, even though I should be doing something else more productive.

Whatever may be the case for my long tenure here, I can only look forward, for the times leave little room to look back. And as for forgetting whatever hardships I, or you for that matter, may have had we are and will be the better for it. It's been a long (long, long, looooong) time coming, but the new decade has arrived. Though we like to think this is a clean slate we forget that our chalk is still dirty with the last. But just cause we're going in with some baggage doesn't mean we let it drag us down. We'll get stronger. We'll get better. And it might take a few million (or billion) lives to do it, but the world will be the better for it.

May the next 10 years treat you better than the last, and may your luck last longer than your New Years Resolution!

Anyway, I've stopped ending all of my sentences in ellipses (...).
Why? On request of a very close friend of mine.
So, yeah, no more ellipses from me.
Again, not much point to this post but to wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year~

It's the favorite modern pastime approaching. Millions lined up across the streets of America to hark in the coming of the holidays the best way they know how to... by spending boatloads of money on various objects at huge markdowns in the middle of the night. Tomorrow we go forth and officially bring this recession/depression/overall bleh to its downfall with pure, reckless spending. A perfect combination of strategy, line standing, and Christmas Shopping with a pinch of retail therapy all preceded by family, friends, and a Thanksgiving feast. God Bless America!

To all those who will be camping out before the days end (myself included): Remember, pay with paper; save the plastic for Monday. Keep safe and keep others just as safe. Regulate your bodily fluids, both input and output. And remeber, theres always the day before & after sales.
Good luck and good hunting!
